How the Regenlite™ Pulsed Dye Laser Works
Regenlite Features Smartpulse Technology
Pulsed dye lasers were originally developed to destroy unwanted blood vessels that manifest in a variety of vascular irregularities.
When the intention is to stimulate new collagen production to enhance skin rejuvenation, the goal of treatment is not to damage ecstatic or dilated vessels but to selectively focus on the tiniest capillaries of the upper dermis and to 'insult' them. To achieve this, perfecting key laser parameters is critical to enable the targeting of healthy dermal capillaries at sub-pupuric doses.
When the Regenlite laser beams targets small capillaries:
- Absorption in the oxyhemoglobin results in heating of the capillary walls.
- Inflammatory mediators are released which stimulate fibroblast cells in the extra-cellular dermal matrix.
- And these fibroblasts produce new collagen.
Typical Pulsed Dye Lasers for the treatment of vascular irregularities make use of a 450µsec pulse duration which delivers energy outside of the thermal damage threshold for the targeted vessels.
Regenlite has been engineered to deliver a Smartpulse, a unique profile of light of 350 µs which delivers the right amount of energy to the vessels at the right time to take them to the brink of damage, maximizing collagen stimulation without long term impairment.
The Regenlite patented Smartpulse feature is generated by a unique ultra stable laser cavity which produces the all important fast rise pulse and pure 585nm wavelength yellow light output. Wavelength stability is crucial to maximize the absorption in oxyhemoglobin and to minimize unwanted purpura.
The Regenlite is Proven by Science
Research at the University Hospital of Aarhus in Denmark, demonstrated that a single Regenlite treatment:
- Increases production of Type III collagen by 84% when using a 5mm hand-piece, increasing to 99.5% with the introduction of the 7mm hand-piece.
- Increases overall collagen production by 148% after a second laser session was performed 14 days later.
- Results in an average 55% reduction in wrinkle depth measured 90 days post treatment.
